Dr Andrew Stainton

Dr Andrew Stainton

Principal Teaching Fellow, Module Leader of Strategic Management, online Master in Management courses

Overview

Andrew began his career 40 years ago, when there were great opportunities to design software applications that harnessed the fast-emerging power of desktop computers. With a passion for Software Engineering, he seized an opportunity to work alongside a consultancy practice. He set up a software business creating Management Training Systems that could sell into their list of large, blue-chip clients. It became a global business that he sold after 17 years.

During this period, he worked in management consultancy, specialising in assisting Strategic Management Planning with particular focus on financial services. He continued this alongside teaching at Southampton University Business School. Combining software development capabilities with strategic management education has been a major success at Southampton, both on a research and teaching level.

Many degree programmes across the University have benefitted from Business Simulation technology applications that have been engineered based on his experience of client strategic challenges. In his role as Module Leader, he focuses on helping students develop and apply Strategic Management thinking processes to real-life cases.
